I've tried to use SyncToy, but failed. I use Win XP sp2, have installed the
firmware ver 1.1.
When running SyncToy preview, it will prompt a massage box:
Exception during preview: Value was either too large or too small for an
unsigned byte.

Hi,

I get this message too! But I feature out that it only happens when I try to
sync 2 WinXP SP2 Home machines. XP pro Sp2 & XP home Sp2 works and two Xp pro
Sp2 machines also work.
Any solutions or suggestions what might be wrong or missing?

That means that some number stored in an unsigned byte has
either gone negative or has exceeded 127.

It sounds like some (very small) size limit has been exceeded.

Hi Michael,

thanks for the reply.
Actually, what I tried to do was syncing Outlook 2003 pst-files on two XP
Home SP2
machines. The pst-file is a rough 56MB in size. On the other side, the two
XP Pro SP2 machines I usually sync, the pst-file is about 160MB big, and
transfers without any problems. Are there any limits in the file size, or is
this an OS related problem?

I wouldn't suspect file size limitations (but who knows?), but
rather limits on the size of some list or pathname that is being
constructed by the program.

Any chance you have a filename or pathname that is >127 characters
long? Does anyone else have any info on this?

As I noted elsewhere, SyncToy seems appropriately named--a little
kludge that someone built for his own use and never tested properly
for a wide range of applications. ;-(
