File sharing CHAOS! |
|
|
Hi
I'm a newcomer when it comes to wireless networks. I bought a wireless router/access point (Netgear DG834G) a while back now and have it running nicely. My laptop is able to wirelessly connect to my network and share the internet connection.
However, now I come onto something a bit more tricky. File sharing. Basically, I am halfway through a home cinema setup in my house and when my projector finally arrives I want to be able to access my images, music and videos on my laptop, rather than having to have a cable coming from my study to the projector in the lounge.
So I have put the 'my documents' folder onto sharing and it is all enabled. But how on earth do I access it on my laptop? For those of you that want to know, I am on the MSHOME workgroup. My laptop is on a domain from my work - I think this might be the problem but I don't know how to solve it.
Any ideas appreciated.

Hi You will need to make sure the workgroup name is the same on both units, do not change your work laptop or it might mess up your work setup. change the "mshome" to whatever the work domain or workgroup is. Then I suggest that you make a new folder on your "c" drive called "music" or something.
On the other machine go to start, run and type the following
\\"ip address"\"music" and enter
ip address can be found by double clicking the computer icon on the bottom right of the screen and going to the right hand tab
the ip address needs to be the one from the machine you are trying to connect to and the "music" is the name of the folder you created
let me know |
