I have Windows XP Home Edition on an E partition on my hard drive, and it
is not accessible. When I try to start it, I get an error message that
flashes by too quickly to read and the computer reboots. There is something wrong with
the E partition. I can see the files on the E partition (which is formatted in
NTFS) using READ NTFS, a DOS based program that can read NTFS formatted partitions, but
I cannot determine what is wrong with the partition which is preventing XP
from starting. I have tried to use the recovery ("R") option on the XP CD
but the computer hangs with the message "Examining 57239 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on
bus 0 on atapi . . ." at the bottom of the screen. Any and all suggestions
for restoring the accessibility of XP appreciated.

Greetings,

I suppose you trying reading your NTFS with NTFS Reader utility for DOS. Another tool that might help you is Uneraser, it might help you restore data. It is also a DOS tool, and it's restore algorithm is really mighty, it never failed me before. Both tools are included in a data utils set Active@ Boot Disk, that also includes other mighty tools for data recovery, backup and erase.
