Ok, so I have searched high and low for some sort of fix for this problem I
keep having and as a last resort I am posting here. I keep getting an error
that states: somefile.exe - Application error. The instruction at -it
varies- referenced memory at -it varies. The memory could not be "read."
The program will be terminated. Then I select ok and it goes away.

It seems as though the only files this is affecting are the files in the
prefetch setup, but for the life of me I can't figure out what is making it
happen! I have tried msconfig, virus scans, service pack upgrades and fixes,
and so far - nadda. The error still happens. Does anyone have a
recommendation?

Jennifer,
I understand your situation but really need the actual file name that'
causing the error.
Unless it is really; somefile.exe !
Best,
Treema

mpfservice.exe, mcinfo.exe, aolnysev.exe, wkufind.exe, ieexplorer.exe,
setup_wm.exe, wmplayer.exe - these are the few that I wrote down. Just
about any time a program closes I get the error.

Are you familiar with this?

this is the same problem i reported having.
i also, have attempted various solutions to no avail.
i have done several restores, but i am not willing to go back several decades.
in my wanderings i did find out that these are error messages that microsoft
has no answer for??
apparently others are experiencing the same thing. maybe we could get
someone who is familiar with these errors or what prcipitated their
appearance.
while one can live with this problem it sure is annoying.

i think i found a possible solution to the problem. pcworld, dec05, page 57
has a link to a microsoft update site. pcworld.com/49782. this sounds and
looks like it will help to resolve the problem. i have not had a chance to
try it. will need a time when i can work uninterrupted to attempt it. will
try over the weekend. it is too bad we have to go to an outside source to
locate some help.
