What USB modems work for Caller ID |
|
|
I've hooked up 3 different brands of modems and cannot get callerID to
function. I do have callerid enabled in the MCE and have added various init
strings to the modems, all of them seem to say "OK" when I do stuff like
AT#CID=1 or AT+VCID=1 but I guess that doesn't mean they really support it.
All MCE does right now is say "Incoming Call" when the phon rings ("RING"
detected).
So what brand/model modems work with this bugger?

Cool, stumped everyone or this is simply something that does not work.

Stumped - Nahh - seems to be a common question.
I personally use a serial US Robotics Courier v/everything serial modem
which works very well and I know that the smartlink modem does not work well
with CallerID. There are many other modems that work as well. If you are
good with hyperterminal or any other terminal emulation program, here is a
test you can do with the modem.to determine callerid and MCE compatibility.
issue the following command at the OK prompt
AT#CID=1<cr>
This turns on the caller id aspect of the modem in verbose mode assuming you
have subscribed to the callerid feature from your local telephone company.
Now have someone call that modem or use your cell phone to call. A good
response will look like:
DATE=1015
TIME=1601
NAME=PERSON CALLING
NMBR=555-555-5555
The date and time are not critical, but the name and number are. If you get
this response, then most computer programs (including MCE) and tapi drivers
will correctly
interpret the data. As for for me - I've tested TapiRex and YAC with no
problems. I really like Tapirex but it is a bit expensive for my home
network with 6 computers. YAC is completely free. I would encourage you to
visit www.thegreenbutton.com where these programs are descibed.
Hope that helps.
