"Decoder In Use" error when trying Live TV |
|
|
Hi, I have been spending a lot of time putting together a HTPC system that
uses MCE2005 to take input from a digital satellite STB from one tuner card,
and BeyondTV to take input from a digital cable STB through a second tuner
card...
Almost got there, but in the process of tinkering with tuner card drivers in
order to make everything seamless, I completely broke the OS and had to do a
repair reinstall. Reinstall went fine, BeyondTV functions fine on both tuner
cards and MCE2005 functions fine EXCEPT for Live TV now brings up a "Decoder
In Use" error whenever I try to use it.
I don't think it's a decoder issue because DVD playback works fine, and I
switched from CyberLink to an InterVideo decoder (both fully supported
according to the deccheck utility). Uninstalled BeyondTV so now MCE is the
only application fighting for tuner resources, same problem. Nothing is
running in the background that would snatch up the tuner or decoder. Tuner
cards and video card all have the latest drivers, which have been uninstalled
and reinstalled repeatedly in trying to figure this out...
I'd really like to fix this without reformatting... any ideas?
Thanks. |

I have the latest MCE drivers from ATI.. the card is a Sapphire Theatrix 550,
based on the ATI Theater 550PRO chip, fully supported by MCE.
As well, the Windows Decoder Checkup Utility has confirmed that both
decoders I tried were fully MCE2005 compliant.
Thank you for the prompt response. |

I suggest uninstalling both decoders and then rebooting the system and
reinstalling one of them and then try MCE only being sure not to start Media
Player or any DVD playing software first. If you still get the error maybe
you go and look at the running processes and see what might me using the
decoder. Bsdased on some information I found on Google I believe that the
error occurs whem MCE is unable to Open the decoder for some reason.

You need MCE drivers for the tv tuner for MCE 2005, There are batch for
CyberLink (power dvd 5 and 6). |

Thanks for the suggestions, tried uninstalling both and reinstalling the
WinDVD, no joy...
I have configured the machine to only start up the normal XP processes as
well as the MCE services... there are no 3rd party processes running on
startup.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

You might try the NVIDIA Decoder availabl for a free 30 day trial at the
NVIDIA.com Website. After you install it on your system drive make sure it
is set as the preferrred Decoder. I have no other suggestions but to
explrore Google for the error message you are getting.
