I can not fastforward or skip with recorded TV shows. If I try the screen starts going fast and then will not release from going fast. If I try and stop and then start the screen goes to black. The only way out is to stop then select restart. The same thing happens with skip. It will go forward 30 seconds then it will start playing fast and with no sound.

Very frustrating, any ideas?

I had that exat sane problem. I found it was down to the MPEG Decoder Software I was using. I was using Cyberlink PowerDVD 5 and I could not skip or fast forward either. I solved the problem by upgrading to Cyberlink PowerDVD 6, the latest version. You can download a trial version of this program on their website to see if it works for you. Another thing you will find useful is to download "Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility" from Microsoft's website. This will tell you which Decoder MCE is currently using and also whether it is compatible. You can then use this program to select which DVD Decoder MCE uses as there may well be more than one of these programs on your PC. Other examples of DVD Decoders you may have are WinDVD and NVIDIA. I have tried WinDVD 7 prior to PowerDVD 6 but it did not work as well so I'm sticking to PowerDVD as "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

thanks for the reply and sugestion. I had that problem initially with my system as well but in this case i don't think that is the problem. But I do believe i have figured it out so i am replying to my own post for the benefit of anyone else who encounters this problem.

I think the problem is that MCE requires that you use NTFS for your file system if you want your video files to be over 2 gigs or so. My system shipped with FAT32 (I asked why they didn't give a good answer) so when I did my first recording it was a 3 hour hockey game and the file was way over 2 gigs. When I tried again with a shorter program it worked fine. I just converted my drive to NTFS and if it dosen't solve the problem I'll be back on this site hoping for more help.

cheers
forman
