I know this is somewhat of a loaded question....

I have reviewed the list of compatible tuner cards, and wonder if
there is a huge difference between any of the cards. I assume that
since all cards are controlled through the media center software that
the only advantage of one card over another is picture quality. Or
are there other advantages, like outputs, etc.

Yes the significant differnce is picture quality both the Hauppauge cards
and the ATI Elit 550 card seem to be the most popuare. NVIDIA is about to
come out with a new DUAL TV (not to be confused with their current dual
tuner NVTV card) card which they claim willl have better PQ than any of the
others currently available and will do a much better job in compressing the
video so that programs will require about half of the disk space of the
current cards. The estimated streer price of the card according to one
poster is about $180

Thanks for your input (and others), I was leaning towards the
Hauppauge card, and to know that the rather inexensive 150 MCE is a
good choice, is nice to know!

Absolutely there are huge differences. The Hauppauge cards (150MCE,
specicially, and the 500MCE) are eons ahead of the "older" ATI cards and
many others. However, I've heard that the newest ATI cards, using their
"5xx" Theatre chip, are much improved (have not used them personally).
I'm not suggesting any one specific card or brand, but your question was
"[I] wonder if there is a huge difference between any of the cards" and
the answer to that is absolutley, emphatically, YES, there are indeed
HUGE differences. If you want to know the best card I can't help you,
but I can say, without hestitation (and having used almost a dozen
different tuner cards) that the Hauppauge 150MCE is both a VERY GOOD
card (certainly "close to" the best) and also, at $65 or so, a bargain
(I just ordered another one from Amazon on Tuesday for $65 including
shipping).
