This is a tricky little bug. No user name to click on to access Windows
XP, can't start in safe mode due to no user name to click on, can't
start with Command prompt, due to no name to log onto. Any ideas will
be greatly appreciated. Computer just opens to GUI, stating that once
you log onto windows, you can create, and manage user accounts. The
unit in question is Compaq Presario 2100 Laptop.

Try safe mode, enter as administrator. If that doesnt show, try booting to xp
cd,recovery,press enter for password,then type:CHKDSK C: /R When its
thru type:Enable Enable:SERVICE_SYSTEM_START or SERVICE_DEMAND_START
I think youre missing:userinit.exe To read more,type:307654 At search at
microsoft.com Worse comes to worse,at xp cd boot menu select, install xp,
"fix this copy"...
