PLEASE HELP. Whenever I listen to my mp3/wav viles using media player or
itunes or anything and open up anything else (IExplorer, word, excel) the
song files slow down and crackles and pops, and then when the program finally
opens up, it runs smoothly again. 512mb ram, 1.4 Athlon, soundblaster live
5.1 (yes I have updated the drivers). I have enough memory, 160 gig hard
drive. Don’t know what the problem is. Bought a new sound card to see if
that was the problem but it still does the same thing.

Could you elaborate on the pop sound? I'm not sure about the slowing down
but this is an interesting one. It could be that you're using a poorly coded
security application that's trying to scan the files as they open? I guess
my first guess would be one of the popular brand antivirus or security
suites that would be likely to do that. The pop sound? I get that sort of
often if I'm anywhere near the PC with my cell phone as it's pinging the
towers. That wouldn't account for it slowing down though. If you're using an
infected PC then malware could EASILY be eating the additional CPU cycles
and making it slow down though. A popping may be a side effect of that.

My girlfriend has the same problem on her computer ... i've been trying to
fix it for the last 3 hours. Any loading or cpu usage at all will make her
sound sound distorted, choppy, and slowed down. As soon as the cpu is done
working it plays normal. I've ran spyware removals, anti-viruses, a2
scanner, removed unused programs, all while being on hold for 2 and half
hours with dell support. Computer is a Dell Dimension DIM3000 Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz 2.79 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. By the way, I'm still on
hold with Dell. It doesn't matter what audio program it is. Any ideas?

No. <g> Well, not really. But I'm going to guess if you don't mind. I'd
GUESS that it's either a hardware issue or you need to update the drivers
for the sound card. As it's happening with any player that indicates to me
that it's one of those problems. Have you tried upgrading the drivers? I
think that's where I'd start with that actually.
