Booting Ghost from Thumbdrive |
|
|
I had the need to boot ghost from a thumbdrive as I wanted to be able to use
my target system for cloning the drives and my target system does not have a
floppy.
This way, I did not have to maintain a PC with a CF to IDE card hanging out.
I also wanted to experiment with making a bootable USB thumbdrive anyway so
here is what I found:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqdt/us/download/20306.html
I used it on my sandisk and gateway thumbdrive no problem. It just copies
the Master Boot record onto the thumbdrive.
I first made a ghost 2003 boot floppy (do not select any USB drivers to be
installed or it will mess up the thumbdrive access).
I then made the bootable thumbdrive using the HP utility.
then I copied the config.sys and autoexec.bat and Ghost folder from the
ghost boot floppy to the thumbdrive
I also made a version using MS DOS (win98 startup disk).
BIOS has to support USB-HDD boot.
Notes: Norton Ghost 9.0 came with Ghost 2003. I did not see the option to
make a boot disk in Ghost 9.0
Notes: If you use an EWF partition, select Image All option so you get the
entire disk (I'm using 512MB CF cards) |
