Printers disappear and then reappear after reboot

Often, when I try to print a document, all of my printers disappear from the
'print' dialog boxes, and the 'printers and faxes' part of the control panel.
After a reboot, they reappear.

This is a problem because I do a lot of work online, and I lose it by
rebooting.

One of the printers is local, the other 4 are network.

I have removed and re-installed all of the printers, to find it's still
happening.

I am using Windows XP Pro SP2.

Your print spooler is stopping.

However why it's stopping is unclear. It's usually corrupted printer
drivers that are the cause:
