Hi.

How can I set sharing permissions on XP so that only one user on the
network can access(it can be Win2000 or WinXP) a shared folder or file?

In Win2k and WinXP Pro, create a user group and assign only the users
(and yourself and/or Administrator of course) you want to that group.
Then set the permissions on the file/folder to be only accessible to
that user group.

What i would like to allow access only to one determined user (that is
on the network). The access could be with login/password.

Make a special user group with just that one user (and administrator,
naturally) in it. Set permissions on the folder accordingly.

Please give more information about your network setup. If you are using
a domain, tell us what the server OS is and whether you are using AD.
If you are not using a domain, please tell us whether the workstations
are XP Pro or Home. The more information you can provide, the more
specific an answer you can get.

You started off the thread saying you wanted to restrict a folder to one
user. I told you how to do it. Then you come back and ask if setting
the permissions is for a local user. If you don't have a domain, how
could it be anything *but* a local user?

Hi again.
Please excuse my lack of understanding and/or experience.
I'll try to explain myself the best I know what my problem is.

There are 3 computers on the same workgroup (not domain).
One of these computers (WinXP) needs to share files (or folders) with
the other 2 (and only these 2 computers). The access could be with
login/password.
