Okay, first, thanks for anyones help.
I never had problems with MM before. I just connected my firewire cable and
off I went. The last time I used MM was last summer. Now after SP2, I get
this error message everytime.
I bought a new 4 to 6 pin firewire cable- that didnt fix it.
The OS reads new hardware and installs drivers, but then instantly MM says
VCD not Detected.
I am running XP Pro SP2 with all updates and options.
As a side, Nero wont find my DV either.
I have been surfing answers for 4 days, no luck.
Please help, I have some great UFO footage I need to upload.
THanks

Try my sp2 and cannot capture pages from here for more info on what to try.

http://www.myvideoproblems.com/ProblemPages/ProblemPages.htm

Does it definately say VCD not detected? Or is that a typo?

My first thought though, would be to test the cam on a known to work pc,
just in case it's gone faulty.

Hello,

I am having the same nagging DV/Firewire issue.
Windows XP will pick up my Sony DV Camcorder(TRV38) each time that I connect
it to the firewire cable but no editing software that I have installed can
capture video from it, including Movie Maker. I get the same old error
message that so many other DV owners get, “no video capture device detected”.

I took my camcorder to Tiger Direct Outlet store here in Naperville, IL and
connected my camcorder to the firewire cable and all was well. I was able to
use Window’s Movie Maker to capture my DV. By this, I was able to rule out my
cable as well as my camcorder. I noticed that these computers had SP2
installed on them such as I do.

I’m at my wits end. I uninstalled my firewire card (bundled with Pinnacle
Studio, 3 port) and pulled it from my system. I rebooted and then shut down.
I inserted a new firewire card (Ultra IEEE 1394 PCI Adapter 3 port) and then
rebooted. Window’s XP picked it up and installed the drivers automatically.
Unfortunately, I am getting the same results. No DV capture.

Here is my system specs:
Window’s XP SP2 (all updates…automatic updates set)
P4-2.4GHz
1GB RAM
Drive C: 120GB (60GB free) IDE
Drive F: 60GB (27GB free) IDE
Drive H: 200GB (120GB free) External USB 2.0

NVIDIA GeForce FX5700LE 256mb
DVD player IDE
CD Writer IDE
DVD Writer External USB 2.0
CD Writer External USB 2.0

Motherboard is MSI with Intel chipset

I suspect that SP2 or some DVD codec has something to do with this problem.
I once was able to capture DV but I can’t remember if it was before I
upgraded to SP2 or not. It has been quite a while ago. I use my PC mostly for
audio (Sonar Producer 5) and now I want to add some DV.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
