VPN connects OK with router, but hangs at verify user/pwd wi |

When I first established VPN connection to work, everything worked fine.
Then I moved. Without the router hooked up, I got right in as usual. When I
re-installed my router, I got the 721 error at time-out when verify
username/password fails. I can use Remote Desktop Connection to access the
work server as administrator, but I can't get to my pc on the network without
disconnecting my router. I have the same cable company ISP as before. Does
anyone know what changed when I moved?

Are you connecting through a Linksys router at the office? Meaning is
the office network behind a Router or a true business class firewall?
The reason I ask is that we found the some of the Linksys units would
only pass GRE in one direction, which gives the 721 error and fails to
verify the users password.
The fix was to create a port forward for 1723 and 47 (I know, it's not a
port) for TCP/UDP and point them to the VPN Server. Some routers require
only TCP 1723/47 others require */1723 and */47 (* meaning TCP/UDP).

Yes we use a router at the office and I believe it is LynkSys. Thank you, I
will try your fix.

Check the LINKSYS site, there is a Knowledge base that has detailed
instructions on what you need to setup for PPTP passing INBOUND, do not
confuse PPTP Pass Through with what you are trying to do - but you do
need PPTP PassThrough set to enabled on the routers.
