Hi, I have an elonex exentia media center which I am very happy with, I have
an additional set top box to allow dual channel viewing/recording and output
back to my widescreen CRT TV via S Video and to my Yamaha surround sound amp
via TOS Link S/PDIF. The 2 problems I am experiencing are as follows:
The only way I can access the sound is by turning up the volume on the pc to
an ambient level and then cranking up my amp thereby gaining surround sound,
there must be a way to allow the pc to work seperately with its own sounds
on, or at least muted whilst hearing the sounds via the amp.
The second issue is the layout of the screen when viewed on the tv. It fills
the screen but is missing the top, bottom and 20% of the right hand side of
the picture. I am sure this can be addressed in the settings but am worried I
will then ruin the picture setup on the pc!
Dilemmas faced by a literate but not competent pc user. Any assistance in
plain old English appreciated. many thanks in advance. Dave

I've recently got an exentia too, and have found the same in respect of
aspect ratio output. Have you found a solution yet to get the machine to
output the full width of the screen on the s-video output?

I have solved the picture aspect. Basically click the ATI radeon symbol in
the system tool area and I selected the 2nd to last one, it does change the
outlook of the pc but the full screen is visible on both pc and widescreen.
Hope this helps, if you find a solution to the sounds issue please let me
know.

Thanks very much for that Dave. Having played around with that I've now
found that similar results are obtained from both of the bottom 2 resolutions
listed (1280x720 & 1280x768). I got the video to output correctly for both
of them by altering the Theater Mode Settings on the Overlay tab of the
display settings, to full screen video & widescreen. This now works for
video played in Windows Media Player. Even better, because it outputs all
video to the TV output in full screen mode, even when WMP is windowed, I can
work over top of the WMP window on the desktop while still outputting video
to the TV!

Aspect ratios have to be played around with on the TV, depending upon
whether WMP recognises the aspect ratio of the recording. Bizarrely, it
doesn't seem to recognise media center recordings as being in 16:9, even
though Media Center replays them as such.

These settings don't seem to make any difference to the video being output
from Media Center though, so pausing live TV & other media center functions
can't be used in conjuncrion with TV output. I assume that you haven't
found a way for the output by Media Center to be the right size & shape for
the TV.

Sorry, I can't help on the sound point, as I don't have a surround sound
system. When connecting a simple stereo output the Exentia cuts its own
stereo speakers, but the sub-woofer still functions! It does though need the
volume cranking right up on the TV to get a reasonable volume.
