Remote desktop in Windows XP home |
|
|
Hello,
I have 2 computers, 1 XP Pro SP2(ComputerA) and 1 XP Home SP2(ComputeB).
I can use remote desktop in Computer B and connect to ComputerA - NO Problem.
When I use remote desktop in computerA and try to connect to computerB -
Failed.
It's that because XP home does not have "Allow user to connect remotely to
this computer"? I can't find "Remote Desktop" under Remote properties.
I also installed VNC (freeware) on both systems. Same thing.
ComputerB can connect to ComputerA, but ComputerA can't connect to computerB
(connection timed out). It looks like XP home is not allowing remote access.
any ideas? Both firewall is off.
thank you. |

XP Home doesn't have Remote Desktop.
VNC
Can you ping the B system from the A system?

I'm having the same issue (work computer has xp home and Home computer has XP
pro)... why won't XP home let you download remote desktop? says there is
already a version installed? Is there a download available to fix this so I
can set up the XP home computer to act as the host?

Both of you have to start netmeeting. You both have it. In remote desktop start netmeeting and Tools - Remote Desktop. It can run without looking like it's running. You probably need to configure firewall. Just experiment with it as it has options everywhere. I thought I had turned it on in the menu and in Options but when I rught click the tray icon it was off and I had to turn on there.
I haven't used it for 2 1/2 years. But it's tops. And any window computer to any other windows computer. Remote Assistance is called Shared Desktop in NM.
