Windows Messenger 5.0 suddenly stopped working. |
|
|
Three days ago my Windows Messenger stopped working. Every time I try to log
on, I get a Service Temporarily unavailable message. My .NET passport is ok
and the service is fine even though I am being told it is unavailable.
I connect to the Internet through a Router and I have another machine
attached to this, on which Windows Messenger works ok, so it’s not the
Hardware Router.
Norton Personal Firewall and Windows Firewall are turned off but this makes
no difference. I am running XP SP 2.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why it fails to connect to the
messenger service? |

I tried installing 5.1 but that didn't cure it.
However, I went to Windows Update and got a message telling me that my
computer date was incorrect and when I set the correct date, my Messenger
started working again.
Problem solved.
