Had tried many times doing a clean installation xp prof but each time giving
error messages. The last one such as ""if this is a new installation ....

technical problems;-
stop 0x00000050(0x86422F43,0X86422f43, 0X000002).""

only the mouse,kb, monitor and cd rom + floppy are connected.
using Pchips, XCEL2000 "M741LMRT" Slot1/Socket-370, SIS620/5595 Chipset, P3
550 mhz

the only addition was the ram (same type, pc100 64mb making a ttl 128 mb)
prior to xp installation.

any advice what can i do next. Thanks.

Andrew E,

encounterED some problem. When I press 'R', it give a screen "1. c:\windows"
which installation do you like to log on"
I type "1" and Enter and it give me the next screen
c:\windows> and I tupe in "diskpart in diskpart"

and it give me c:\> and i change to a:>
and at a:> which I typed Format C:/fs:ntfs
and it says the parameters are invalid

at last I typed Format c: and hit Enter
it does it formatting and at A:> EXIT
and the pc restart.

After restart, it seems to do its thing but stuck at the blue screen heading
"window setup" and at the bottom of the screen, it says " setup is loading
files (adaptec 2000s/3000s ultra 160 scsci raid controllers). it has been
stuck here for a good 15 minutes.

pls advice, what shall i do next. i guess i made a mistake in reading the
section on "DiskPart" and thats why it did not go as you mentioned.
When formatting, the machine did not say which file system its formatting.

pls help and thanks a lot.

Usually caused by faulty memory. Could be any kind: ram, L2 cache, video
ram, etc. Some articles for you:

"Stop 0x50" Error Message While Installing Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=171003

"STOP 0x0000008e" error message during Windows XP setup
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315335

I've seen similar problems during setup. Once on a system with a bad cdrom
drive. It was not reading properly so the data in memory was faulty and not
usable. On one of my own systems, the 8e stop message was persistent. In
the end, I found a short in one of the RAM slots on the board.

PS: You might try installing with the base 64MB of RAM only. As long as
that is not shared with video, XP will accept that amount since 64MB is the
absolute minimum of required RAM. Once XP is in and running, add the second
memory module and use Add/Remove Programs> Add/Remove Windows Components to
install any wanted components that were skipped during the initial setup
due to memory requirements.

At last done with a 128 ram. Now when I shut down the xp, it give a message
'its safe to shut down yr pc...", how do I get rid of this?. As i bought it
2nd hand, I do not know if this was the case when they run w98se.

Since I am using dial-up, is there a way where I can get the updates
downloaded (by broadband) and install into my pc. Many thanks for your
assistance and "Merry Christmas"

Glad to hear that you're all set up with XP. If the system supports APM, XP
setup does not enabled it by default. Go to Control Panel> Power Options.
If there is an APM tab (it will only be present if the system supports this
and it has a suitable BIOS version), check the box to enable. Automatic
shutdown should return, if not on this shutdown - on the next one. Merry
Christmas to you too :)
