Hi
My computer used to take about 30 secs to come to desktop and I could thgen
immediately access any file in "my computer".
Now "my computer" won't access any files until a torch has waved about for
two minutes. What have I done???

You may have done nothing. As a system matures, it becomes more complex.
Starting certain things and getting all of the extras loaded can take a wee
bit more time. Suggestion, do something else for a minute or two - letting
everything load completely. Then launch My Computer.

Or you may have added a new program, updated an existing one, updated
Windows or one of the startup programs has developed a problem. Any changes
to startup or to the operating system can potentially change the
interactions that take place during startup, consequently slowing things
down a touch. This can be a little tricky to pinpoint what is causing the
slowdown and as soon as it's fixed, another update could land you in the
same boat. Unless the slowdown is remarkable - 5 to 10minutes - I still
feel that the best solution is to wait an extra minute or two at startup
and then commence working. Typically, I start my computer. Walk away for a
fresh cup of coffee, return and then start working.
