I've noticed that there are many AVIs and MPEGs in my collection that I have
created using various tools that will not play correctly in Media Center.
The strange thing is that for some of the files, the preview appears when I
browse to Videos and select the appropriate folder. Is there something
wrong with my installation or are there specific encodings that are
supported and others that are not?

I have problems but issue relates to files supported by MCE and extender.
Check LINKSYS support site under Knowledge base: WMCE54AG Media Center
Extender Frequently Asked Questions - Supported media formats. There is a
good blurb on files supported. I recently purchased ADOBE Premier Elements
and have yet to do a lot of "export" tweaking to find file formats MCE and
Extender like... pain in the $?#

Hi, I have asked this before, search for my post titled "K-lite Codec pack
with MCE 2005".

Basically, what I have learned from the experienced folks here was to only
install the ffdshow codec. I did that and all of my divx, avi, and mpeg
files worked great. I've recently added the xvid codec (keopi's release)
along with an AC3 audio codec, and now Xvid extensions play as well,
flawlessly.

The bottom line is to NOT install codec packs that throw every codec know to
humans onto your system, which from what I have learned here and researched
elsewhere, will make MCE2005 very upset.

Hope that helps :)
