Everything was working fine for a month and yesterday I got the following
error when trying to download the TV programming guide:

File Validation Error - mismatched guide package Code : 20

I've searched Google, MS, XPMCE, and Green Button and found many other
people with the same problem and no solution (I already tried deleting the
EPG files and it still doesn't work).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Jim

Make sure your regional settings in control panel are set correctly and that
you have entered a correct zip code when trying to download guide. If you
have a choice of more than one source to download from pick the one that
matches your set up (analog, digital etc)

I had a heck of a time with the guide a week or so ago. I could download on
one side of my dual boot config, but the other kept giving me errors.

Although I knew it wasn't the guide info, for the heck of it, I downloaded a
different guide -- basically the same as mine, but with premium channels
that I don't have. For whatever reason, that worked. Then I manually deleted
all the premium channels, and it's been working fine since.

It's worth a try...

See my post from 8/21/05 and other posts earlier. There is no answer for
this problem that I have found. I've contacted Microsoft and they are unable
to tell me what "Code 20" is let alone fix it. I've been told that they "are
working on it" with the MCE 2005 developers. Meanwhile the only fix that I
know of is to reinstall the Operating System (Windows XP MCE2005). I don't
know if the fix would be worth the headache. Bill S.

I keep getting the error code 13: "internet connection failed to download"
however when I was setting up the Media Center, it tested the connection and
it worked just fine. Any suggestions?

I may have a fix. I've had the exact same problem for over a week now, and
I've been unable to find a fix. Well, I happened to notice that my BIOS
information was getting reset to defaults when I restarted my box (I noticed
becuase I don't have a floppy drive, and disabled that in the bios, but
lately an error was generated at boot while looking for it). Having seen
this before, I replaced the CMOS battery that saves the settings when the
power is off (looks like an overgrown watch battery... mine was a CR2032,
which seems to be standard). After replacing it, I entered the BIOS setup
(press DEL key during boot for my machine), disabled the floppy again, and
SET THE CLOCK! This is where I think the problem originated. Even though
the Windows time was correct, the system time in the BIOS was stuck at its
initial position (Oct 2002 in my case). I believe Media Center compares the
downloaded guide to the system time, rather than the windows time (which is
why this failure also happens if your Windows time zone is out of whack I
suppose). If they don't match, you get an error. I entered Media Center,
went through the guide setup (I had tried switching to another lineup
earlier), downloaded the guide and BAM! guide is back, channels are back and
all my upcoming recordings are BACK! Definately give this a shot before
completely giving up hope! Good luck!

I have had the same problems. Have you been able to resolve this issue? If
so, what was the fix?

Great post. Worth a try although my machine is new so I wouldn't expect the
battery to be the problem but it does give me a clue.

I encountered my guide dowload problem after I installed the roll up2 update.

I had the same problem and realized I had inadvertantly changed the date on the windows clock. Go to date and time properties in lower right hand corner of your screen and make sure the date is correct. Hope it's as simple as that.
