install xp in one pc and wont work on another |
|
|
My pc has Motherboard Manual "M741LMRT" Slot1/Socket-370, PCCHIPS, XCEL2000,
SIS620/5595 Chipset, P3 550MHZ and because of the system (98se) is not in
perfect working order. I took the hdd (20)gb and reformat, install Xp prof
from my friend's computer which is also a P3, 660mhz. Tested in his pc and is
working fine, including all the updates etc
I connect it to my own pc and it would not boot to XP. It will always give
you the message that because it previously did not ...etc , remove all new
installations etc..... and it also show the start up menu where you can
choose safe mode, safe mode with prompt, last known good config etc..."
So when I choose 'safe mode', it will still come back o the safe mode menu.
when I choose "start normally", it will also come back to the safe mode menu.
Any idea whats wrong with it, is it that we cannot load the XP from 1 pc and
install into a different comparable pc. appreciate your advice, thanks |

Jim;
You can not use your friends Windows XP license on your computer.
You need your own copy.

Now, can't even get the pc to the "safe mode' menu. when I on the pc, nothing
happen. I tried to press 'delete' to go to cmos, also unable, just THE SAME
black screen. noticed that after I on the pc, the monitor light wll just go
from green to orange (no signals, all connections are ok including the
monitor). I tried to start with the system disk (98se), also nothing happen.
Has it got to do with the bios?. Your assistance much appreciated, thanks.

Jim;
If you can not get to the BIOS,you may have a hardware problem.
Power off.
Start by disconnecting all peripherals such as printer, camera, scanner etc.
Open case and reseat all cards and cables.
Try another monitor after checking all monitor connections carefully.

I had the same/similar problem. I installed a 'new' hard drive from an old
computer which was bigger than the one I was replacing. FDISK'd it and
installed XP pro. It would not boot. Kept giving me a blue screen of death.
Put the old drive in and it worked straight off.
Put the 'new' drive back into another computer and it was fine. Using it as
a back-up drive now. Still none the wiser why it wouldn't work though. |
