Question for the experts.

An episode of NYPD blue recorded in OTA HD.

In windowed mode or full screen mode within MCE itself, part of the ABC logo
is clipped of (AB instead of ABC).

Using Media player though in Windowed or fullscreen mode, the ABC logo is
exactly intact.

My question is this, same video file, why the added overscan In MCE2005
playback and not in Media Player 10 Playback?

TIA

Yes, the Media Center does "overscan cropping", i.e. it cuts off the edges
of the live video to make sure that the overscan areas of analog video
sources are not visible.

Unfortunately, there is no real way to control this "overscan cropping" in
MC. You can turn it off by configuring the display to S-Video or Composite,
but this not only disables overscan cropping, it also enabled the "TV mode
UI" which switches to a lower resolution in full screen mode, and on top of
that looks downright crappy on non-TV displays. You should still try it,
though, to make sure it is really the overscan cropping that clips the
logo.

Media Player doesn't implement this overscan cropping, it is a feature of
the Media Center. It'd be desirable to have better control over it, so that
you could disable it for HD sources, and maybe even for digital SD sources,
which may no longer have overscan areas either. Aside from on/off, being
able to control the amount of overscan cropping might also be desirable...

Regards,«

Robert,

I indeed changed it to composit/S..and indeed on my desktop viewing of HDTV
material, in windowed or fullscreen, ALL the image was intact.....BUT when I
connected my 65 RPTV, the problem was stil lthere with the clipped logo, in
either Composite/s or DVi mode.

But on my 19+ inch desktop the overscan was gone, now if icould get this
onto the big tv.
