My Gateway PC came preloaded with WMC2005 and a single card. I bought an ATI
TV Wonder Pro which doesn't have any special drivers for WMC but some of
their other products do. Iinstalled the card with no problems but WMC doesn't
detect a second signal. Both tuners have a regular cable lTV line running to
them - I don't have satellite TV or anything that requires a box.

I guess the question is whether there are special requirements for a TV
tuner card to act as a second tuner for WMC.

Thanks,

Jayjay

Yes, it should be on this list.

The ATI TV Wonder Pro is not & probably will never be supported by MCE. Basic
reason is that a requirement for the TV capture card in MCE 2005 is that it do
MPEG2 encoding in hardware.

Thanks, I feared as much. Unfortunately, I already clipped the UPC off the
box to get a rebate so I can't take it back. It seemed to install okay on the
machine even if MCE doesn't recognize it. Do you think that if I load the TV
software that they gave me with the card, I can run it independently of the
MCE controlled tuner?

If so, I might use it like this for a while until the prices of the HDTV
cards come down and I get an HDTV monitor.

Thanks again,

Jayjay

Yes, if MCE doesn't see the card & grab it then you should be able to use the
software supplied with the card.

Be aware that if you want to use HDTV in MCE (ATI HDTV Wonder is the only
supported card) you will also need regular TV card as well e.g. Hauppauge WinTV
PVR250. So it may be as well to sell your card on Ebay & buy a supported card.
