Slipstreaming SP2

I recently did a complete fresh XP install on a computer that had WinME. Now
I want to update that computer to SP2.

Would it be better for me to create a slipstreamed CD and do a complete
fresh install using the created cd, or just do an SP2 update?

(I haven't added all of my software programs to the computer yet - if that
makes any difference)

Brian,

Since the system should be clean at this point in time applying SP2
should not raise any issues. Either download the entire package

or order the CD
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

Once it's installed you can then slipstream it for future use :

I do updates for my family members as well, and since I will be visiting
them over the holidays, I will need to do the same thing on their machines.

Can I use my slipstreamed cd on their system to do a complete re-install,
and enter their Product Key, or will I need to create a slipstreamed cd on
their actual machine?

Each machine will need a slipstreamed CD created for it.

Well, yes and no. You need to use the correct version of Windows to make
the slipstreamed CD. IOW, if your family have a variety of versions
installed such as:

1. Retail XP Pro
2. Retail XP Home
3. OEM XP Pro
4. OEM XP Home

then you would make 4 different slipstreamed versions. But if two family
members have retail XP Home, you wouldn't need separate slipstreamed
cd's for that, and you don't need to do the slipstream on their pc.
Although it would be nice to give them a copy of the slipstreamed cd to
keep for themselves.

All this assumes they don't have a specialized OEM version put out by an
OEM like Dell or Compaq or just a Restore Disk.
