I currently don't have a home network install and thus no wires and no
routers. Seeing that my xbox/playroom is right beside our current MCE/living
room... can I do a direct connect with an ethernet cable from my MCE PC to
the xbox ???

Maybe a cross-over cable is needed instead of a regular ethernet cable ?? I
don't want to go wireless as the room are beside one other... can a direct
cable feed be possible?

While im not the final voice of reason, I see no reason why you could not use
a crossover. You will need to run the network setup wizard to enable the
connection as the pc will need to be running a form of dhcp, but should work
great.

If you connect the MCE machine and the XBox directly via Ethernet, you will
need a crossover cable.
