Linksys MCX music out of synch with MCE 2005 PC |
|
|
I'm having a problem with my extender being out of synch with music
files\folders on my MCE 2005 PC. I've moved music folders around, deleted
some, added some etc. on my PC, yet the MCX does not reflect these changes.
The same thing goes for playlists built on the PC. I've had some instances
where adding a new folder or playlist of music is reflected on the extender,
but it's not consistent. I've applied the one patch I was directed to when I
registered my extender, but this doesn't resolve the problem. The only way I
can get things in synch is to do a hard reboot of the extender so it
completely re-synchs up my music files. With 9000 music files, this is a
painful process!
Does anyone have a solution to this or is this a known issue\bug? If so,
will this be fixed via firmware or will new hardware be needed? I've called
linksys and can't get a straight answer.
Also, I'm trying to find out if this behavior is specific to the device or
inherent in the Operating System. I'd be willing to try the HP extender if I
knew this was a bug isolated to the Linksys. Basic question here is - is
there any differences between the Linksys and the HP extenders besides the
hardware manufacturers?
Any ideas?
Thanks!

The extender is a separate 'user' in Windows XP and hence has it's own
media database. It builds this database by reading the Watched Folders
you designated when you first setup My Music in the extender.
What I do to get the extender just the way I like it is to arrange
everything in Media Player and then copy the database files from my
user folder to the extender user folder.
The files are located in:
Documents and Settings\MCX1\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Media Player
Substitute MCX1 for your user name and your extender name. If you only
have one extender, it's probably MCX1.
Be sure your extender is turned off prior to overwriting it's library
files. |

Glad to hear that works -- that's good to know.
I've always suspected it would work, but I never
got around to trying it. Thanks!

Thanks very much for the suggestion. This worked as you've described.
Does anyone know if this also happens with the HP extender or is this
specific to the Linksys? I'm wondering if this is just a problem with the OS
that's installed in the extender or device specific.
Any thoughts?

HP and Linksys extenders are exactly the same
(only their cases are different).

Thanks for the response and saving me the trouble of finding this out after
the hassle of returning and reinstalling!
