Yep - these aren't MCE compliant AFAIK.

Yep - the drivers you've installed are specifically for Hauppauge software.
MCE 2005 requires specific, custom drivers. Luckily these exist (I got my
PVR USB2 working with them briefly - before installing a DVB-T card for
better quality digital TV reception in the UK)

Your link and Barb's and the files I downloaded didn't help the problem any.

I must be doing something wrong.

According to Hauppauge you should not use the CD that comes with the Win TV
when using it for MCE. You have to get them from here. ( I just got one here
in the UK. Its nice that they put this information on / in the box - not )

Did you run HWCLEAR.EXE from the Hauppauge CD to ensure that you removed every
last trace of the wrong drivers?

OK! Think I finally figured this out.

And it still isn't working - properly -

I see I should have thrown that Hauppauge disc in the trashbin... and used
just those drivers that I was told about... Barb and Stephen.

So I used hardware clear... and installed just those... and Media center
2005 like what it saw... the tuner.

So I set it up and the TV Listings... no sweat!

Then I tried to watch TV and it would run from anywhere from a few seconds
to a few minutes and then lock up.

The thing is, after it locks up I am able to record... and playback from
Media Player 10 shows the quality is excellent... and I can start and stop
recording... and everytime I do, I hear a little noise blip as it's trying
to show me TV content.

So I have a driver issue...

Anyone know what to do? Maybe it's rollback and re-install time? (of just
this part, I think I imaged the drive...)

Anyone?

TIA.

PS, I have done this like 4 or more times and nothing has made any diff...
sometimes I get a green box instead of TV content... it's weird...

what else is on the system? what decoder are you using? there isn't
enough information yet to tell what is on this white box machine.

Good question Barb...

It's a test box, multi-boot, with lots of OTHER non MCE2005 stuff on it.
But that shouldn't matter...

All that is on here is the plane jane vanilla MCE2005 OEM (from the MAP).

I have installed the nVidia codec, the 30 day trial.

Otherwise, that is all.

Oh the mobo is an Intel 775i65GV with sound, vi etc built in. The video is
Intel Extreme Graphics 2.

I just restored an image from last week before I had added the nVidia
codec... so now i grabbed the beta codec and installed it. And then I used
those drivers from your link.

When it said new hardware I used those drivers. Went thru the TV install
inside MCE...

Started the TV and just for grins put it on a channel and watched TV for 5
mins and then switched it. Everything was fine until I switched it.

I now again have exactly the same situation; video that is locked up. Killed
MCE... started it back up and I have a green viewing area where I should
have TV content... it almost looks like the driver is being eaten up...

Let me know if you need more info...

BTW, this all works using the stuff on the install CD OUTSIDE of MCE2005...

Doesn't appear to be...

However, it plays videos just fine... and I can record TV in MCE and play
back in Media Player 10 just fine... all while it's locked up...

Hummm but perhaps this is the problem... sure would be nice if it either ALL
worked or ALL not worked...

Thanks Barb... looks like I need to go shopping again or wait untill MS adds
my builtin video card to the list.

OR

I run it outside of MCE...

Tell me, does MCE add to the viewing experience? I suppose the ability to
record and play those back is enhanced?

The on-board graphics card is your problem. There are almost none that are
suitable for MCE 2005 & your Intel Extreme Graphics 2 is not one of them.
Special MCE drivers are available for ATI & Nvidia cards. Yes, I know it records
TV OK (doesn't use the graphics card for this) & plays OK in WMP10 but that
doesn't mean it will work in MCE 2005.

I'd look to the video as the issue as I hinted. One of the reasons
there is no "end user" operating system in a box for sale and that MCE
is an OEM and system builder product is that there are very specific
hardware requirements. Your only choice is to go shopping.

Is your video card on the approved list?

Good question Barb...

It's a test box, multi-boot, with lots of OTHER non MCE2005 stuff on
it. But that shouldn't matter...

All that is on here is the plane jane vanilla MCE2005 OEM (from the
MAP).
I have installed the nVidia codec, the 30 day trial.

Otherwise, that is all.

Oh the mobo is an Intel 775i65GV with sound, vi etc built in. The
video is Intel Extreme Graphics 2.

I just restored an image from last week before I had added the nVidia
codec... so now i grabbed the beta codec and installed it. And then I
used those drivers from your link.

When it said new hardware I used those drivers. Went thru the TV
install inside MCE...

Started the TV and just for grins put it on a channel and watched TV
for 5 mins and then switched it. Everything was fine until I switched
it.
I now again have exactly the same situation; video that is locked up.
Killed MCE... started it back up and I have a green viewing area
where I should have TV content... it almost looks like the driver is
being eaten up...
Let me know if you need more info...

BTW, this all works using the stuff on the install CD OUTSIDE of
MCE2005...

what else is on the system? what decoder are you using? there isn't
enough information yet to tell what is on this white box machine.

OK! Think I finally figured this out.

And it still isn't working - properly -

I see I should have thrown that Hauppauge disc in the trashbin...
and used just those drivers that I was told about... Barb and
Stephen. So I used hardware clear... and installed just those... and
Media
center 2005 like what it saw... the tuner.

So I set it up and the TV Listings... no sweat!

Then I tried to watch TV and it would run from anywhere from a few
seconds to a few minutes and then lock up.

The thing is, after it locks up I am able to record... and playback
from Media Player 10 shows the quality is excellent... and I can
start and stop recording... and everytime I do, I hear a little
noise blip as it's trying to show me TV content.

So I have a driver issue...

Anyone know what to do? Maybe it's rollback and re-install time?
(of just this part, I think I imaged the drive...)

Anyone?

TIA.

PS, I have done this like 4 or more times and nothing has made any
diff... sometimes I get a green box instead of TV content... it's
weird... Gary D

Your link and Barb's and the files I downloaded didn't help the
problem any.

I must be doing something wrong.

Did you run HWCLEAR.EXE from the Hauppauge CD to ensure that you
removed every
last trace of the wrong drivers?

This is not going to happen the on-board graphics simply are not powerful enough
for MCE 2005.
