Do I have a Video card problem or Video Decoder problem? |
|
|
I am receiving an error message of the following. "Video Error-Files needed
to display video are not installed or not working correctly." its displayed
when I try to watch tv or watch videos in Media Center. Is this a video
decoder problem or a video card problem?

I have a ATI Radeon 9200 with the latest drivers from ati's website, and
PowerDVD 6.0. Not sure about the decoder version, or if I have one for that
matter.

Could be either. Please tell us what graphics card you have, what version of the
driver & which DVD/MPEG2 decoder with version.

Are you sure you have current MCE drivers for your TV tuner/Video capture
card and not the standard drivers?

Yes. I have the new PVR 150MCE with updated latest and greatest drivers. But
even to open a .wmv file or an avi file that is independent of the tuner
card, I cannot open or see video files.

Have you installed the MCE 2005 versions of the ATI drivers?
Have you checked that you don't have more than one MPEG2 decoder filter
installed on your PC using the Microsoft DECCHECK utility that is available
for download. This allows you to view the various MPEG2 decoders that you
may have, indicating which ones are MCE 2005 compliant and allowing you to
chose the default driver.
Be worth doing both of these. Installing the lates ATI drivers (I have a
9600) has improved my video replay quality noticably.
