Need help with XP SP2 problem |
|
|
I'm having a problem with XP SP2. After installing SP2 when I open a folder
like my pictures, the left menu disappears and I get the warning bar across
the top saying the active x script has been blocked, click here to show menu.
I have turned off SP2's popup blocker and set all options to allow all
scripts and changed all security settings as low as they will go.
Help says "you can turn this off, but we don't recomend it"
It doesn't tell how to do it.
Is there any way to fix this problem???? |

You're blocking the next step in the process. Right-click the warning and
select to allow the function. Keep the pop-up blocker turned on. By doing
so, it will allow you to control the pop-ups which appear as you navigate
the web in Internet Explorer. If you have further questions, please post to
the microsoft.public.windowsxp.general newsgroup. This newsgroup supports
Media Center Edition computers only.

I know that but I don't want to have to right click and click allow script to
run every time I open up a folder.

Well that's not right. Every time I open a folder the entire left window
closes and I get the active x warning then and click allow script. I have
uninstalled SP2 and everything works fine now.
I did a complete reformat and install and ran all of the updates and when I
installed SP2 I got the same results. I have uninstalled SP2 again and
everything is fine.
I would still like to know how to turn this off and why it is doing this in
the first place.
Also I took your suggestion and went to
msnews.microsoft.public.windowsxp.general newsgroup
AND guess what!!
It took me here. That's Microsoft for ya.
Thanks

Thanks for reporting the issue. If you use a real news reader (like Outlook
Express) you can subscribe to any of the Microsoft newsgroups via the
msnews.microsoft.com news server, no logon, no password, and it is free. OE
has information in Help on how to set up the News account.
