Networking with MEdia Center Edition 2005 |
|
|
I have 2 PC's both running MCE 2005 and an xbox with the media extender. Is
it possible to set up one MCE 2005 PC as a "master" ie with tuner card and fm
radio, storage drive for dvd's, mp3 etc... and stream that to my other pc
running mce 2005 without an extender? I have one tuner card and don't really
want to buy another if i can stream it to another pc without the extender.
thanks. much appreciated. |

You can have the xbox extender connect to the "master pc" and then use a
program called "share recorded tv" that is available in the downloads
section of www.thegreenbutton.com to share the recorded tv with the "slave
pc". You will not be able to use the "slave pc" to schedule recordings or
watch live TV though.

eworldit,
You could use remote desktop to schedule recordings
on the "master pc" from the "slave pc". Of course,
no one else would be able to use the "master pc" while
you were doing that.
And I *think* you could effectively watch "Live TV"
from the "slave pc" by watching a "Recorded TV" show
as the "master pc" is recording it (using the "Share
Recorded TV" program described by Jeff.
(I said *think* because I've never tried it myself.)

OK , this does not make sense to me.
Why would MS not make multiple mce machines be able to connect to each other to be able to do these things? Yet Linksys and HP have something in place to do it over the network? Just doesn't make any sense....
