An "unspecified error" message comes up when I try to start the program. A
while ago I had made the mistake of deleting all my collections to save
space. I must have deleted necessary files. I tried to reinstall the
program, but the files never were replaced. I got someone to zip all the
files for me and I put the necessary folders and files in place where they
belonged. I used the "mm20ex.inf" file to install again, but no luck, I
used "mm20msi" to install and repair and no luck. I don't want to mess with
the registry. Also, Service Pack 2 and Movie Maker are not listed in the Add
Remove Programs panel. I really need some help here. I got the CD from
Microsoft for Service Pack 2 and I can't find the right file to just install
Movie Maker. Does anyone have any ideas? Please write to
Lasin007@hotmail.com. You might have to use a lowercase"
L"asin007@hotmail.com. Thanks.

The Setup > MM2.0 and MM2.1 pages of my website might help.... as you know,
there isn't an install package for just MM2.1

I've had the same problem for about 1 month. FINALLY I resolved it. But it
was not friendly!

I built a new user account from scratch, (very dangerous)
- created a new userid, but did not logon yet
- made a backup of the "default user" profile, then deleted the original
- then restart and logon to the new user account.

Next I exported that section of the registry - and imported into my "bad"
user account - and presto - it worked.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MM20]

I do not know what in particular in that registry was incorrect, but one of
the symptoms is that the options dialog will not save into the default
temporary files location anymore. I've confirmed security settings were as
open as they can get...
