Peer to Peer not working |

I have two computers linked NIC to NIC by a CAT5 crossover network
cable.
One computer can see thew other but when I click on it the files will
not open. There are no yellow triangles in the Network Section, or
indeed any section, in the Device Manager of either computer
The 1st computer is called 'PC1' running Windows XP Home Edition 5.1
Service Pack 2 and IPCONFIG /ALL produces the following.

If I look under 'My Network Places/Entire Network/Microsoft Windows
Network/Home' I can 'see' both PC1 and PC2 on both computers. I can
access both computers from PC2 but PC1 can only access it's own shared
folder. When I click on PC2 (using PC1) I get an error box with the
message "\\PC2 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the Administrator of this server to find
out if you have access permissions. Access is denied
I am Administrator on both computers. I have already tried changing PC1
to Node Type 'Mixed' but that made both PC1 and PC2 disappear from the
HOME workgroup on PC1 so changed it back.
I can see that IP Routing is enabled on PC1 but not on PC2 although I
have checked the settings are set the same on both computers under
'Local Area Connection Properties'.
Could this difference be the problem and if so should they both have it
enabled or both disabled and how do I do it.
I am so close yet so far. Please can anyone assist? Thanks |
