Media disconnected, network cable unplugged message |

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 which has wired and wireless internet
capabilities. Ever since I tried plugging in my ethernet cable into my new
college dorm, my ethernet card doesn't seem to be working. I guess a message
which says "Network cable unplugged." When I try to "disable" and then
"enable", the message says "connection failed!". Just recently, I realized
that my wireless card isn't working either, and I get a similar "connection
failed" message when I try to disable/enable. When I go to Start-->Run -->
"cmd" I get a media disconnected message for both the wired and wireless
connections.

1. I hope you'd turned on your firewall before connecting to this network.
College networks are hotbeds of virus and hacking activity. And be
especially careful with wireless.
2. Do the cards show up properly in Device Manager?
3. If you right-click on one of the network connections and choose 'repair',
what happens? |

In response to the questions:
1. I do have a firewall.
2. The devices do show up as working properly in the Device Manager.
3. When I right click in the Network Connections, I am not able to repair
the connection because this option is in light gray font.
