i am wanting to network my pc which is running windows 98SE and my laptop
which runs on window XP home with a wireless conection. I only want to
network them for broadband internet and not for all the folders and other
stuff on them, is this possable? if so want do i need ?

My suggestion would be to use a wireless router and a wireless card in each
machine.
Both computers will end up on the same network if you do this. Unless you
share something they will not have access to each other.

The wireless router is a great idea, but a wired connection to the Win98 PC may
be easier to set up. A router like the Linksys WRT54G will give you 4 wired
ports plus the wireless capability. Add the appropriate network cards to each
computer, and you should be set.
