Sound not RECORDING!!! HELP PLEASE...

i have no problem playing sound from my comp...it all works fine. But when i
try to record..using mic, line in...it doesn't work. And i checked all my
volumes and put them to max. To me i tried everything but it simply wont
record. I thought it was my sound card so i went out and bought a new one.
Still no luck. Then i thought it was the window problem so i rebooted my
comp...still no luck. please help me..somebody

Did you use the "record" slider for the mic and line it and not the first
set of sliders that comes up when you dub click the speaker icon at the
bottom right.
