Speaker balance - HELP

I downloaded a windows update today and since that time have gotten no sound
out of my left speaker. the right speaker is working fine. I have checked
all connections, unplugged the power and plugged them back in but nothing has
worked. I run on windows Xp with JBL platinum series speakers. Can anyone
help>?

Rightclick the sound icon on task bar (next to clock maybe) and Open Volume
Control. Check the Balance if the sliders have not been moved from left to
right or visa versa.
