Composite 2 Inputs - Useless? |
|
|
I just bought a HP m7067c with XP Media Center and a TV tuner card. One
feature I was really looking forward to was using the front inputs for
showing video games and other external RCA sources on my PC. Unfortunatly
I've come to find that I can't get my computer to display the input coming
through those inputs (composite 2) - not even media center. After an
exhausting string of emails with HP Support, all they could say was that
these inputs are only designed for the importation of video (like from a
camcorder) and not for viewing, per say. Is that right? Why have those inputs
an be able to display them? I guess what I'm looking for is an 'Aux' setting
on the TV portion of Media Center, or some other program that will display
that signal. Am I crazy in thinking that these RCA jacks should have some
other purpose than recording? |

I have been having the exact same problem. I am using the HP zd8000 notebook.
I have tried everything to get these connections working. I haven't contacted
HP yet. It seems only logical that these would serve a different purpose,
especially because their are two of them! Anyone who could offer some help on
this, please do!

I was able to get some signal to display by setting up the TV portion of
Media Center, using the input feed as a cable box. Only problem was that the
image was so slow, it would be useless trying to play any game. If I wanted a
VCR however, I think it might work....who knows? I'd still love to hear some
thoughts! |

The video through MCE is delayed since it is encoded into MPEG2 compressed
form and written to the disk and then it is decoded and displayed which
takes some time. You can not use MCE TV tuner input for games for this
reason.

You know I have got the same problem you have. When call Hp support they
want to connect you up to a pay as you go service for assistance. Seems kind
of strange when you have a new computer and a imput jack does nothing and is
not covered in any of the information with the computer. I have started the
email question concerning this problem to see what they have to say. In
looking at the info enclosed to use a camera they only show usb for firewire
and only talk of digital. No where to they cover the composite imput jack.
A way to solve the problem would be to get a composite to usb converter which
is under $50. It is a waste if the computer will do it with the magic
command. I have had thoughts of opening the pc up and take a look at the
board, It may have a option via switch or pins.

Well had some Luck with a answer to Composite Video from HP. Sent email to
the president of hp and someone got back to me very fast. Using the software
that came with The machine should be a app called sonic. If you select a
option to made a dvd and change the option from the tv turner to composite
video you will see the imput jack does go some where. This method is good if
you want to exfer vhs from a vcr to make a DVD. Hope this will help and
others who run into the problem.
