I converted to xp from ME and I lost the functionality of the cd burning from
Roxio, windows media player, and smart cd. I analyze the drives (NEC and
Samsung, 2 drives on a dell machine) thru the control panel and it tells me
the properties are ok. trouble shooting doesn't deal with this, since I can
play the audio cd fine, and a program cd rom works fine on the drive. The
roxio just fails and has to close, the smart cd says disk not writable (but
they're new cd-r disks from the same stack that worked with me). When I check
to update drivers, it says the drivers are the most recent. Help! Any ideas?
Thanks

Check with Roxio's website for updates. Did you run the upgrade analyzer
to check on possible or hardware incompatibilities?

Yes Roxio has an upgrade to buy, but I downloaded the most recent version of
smartcd, had a recent install of windows media player, and tried the most
recent version of realplayer. They all gave me a similar message indicating
that I needed to insert a blank cd (when that was what was in the
drive)(smartcd), or wouldn't allow the addition of some of the music files to
the play list (WMP). When I did the install, I ran the upgrade analyzer and
it gave no indication that the Dell installed drives (2001 vintage) would be
incompatable with XP. Any other ideas about what the problem could be or how
to check it? Thanks!
