I have Windows XP Home Edition on my computer. I have two accounts, Guest,
And Me, Grace. Well, one weekend i was going away and i didn't want anyone to
get onto my computer, so i password protected Grace, and then set it to
administrator. Well, when i got back, i had forgotten my password. Well,
there goes all of my files and accessibility to everything else. I can't
download anything. Which means i can't use my digital camera, or any games. I
have been using the search feature to get my music and pictures from the
other account. I tried my password hint, and that wasn't much help. I have
tried everything i could think of. My dad said that i had to reinstall it on
my computer, well, i can't even do that. I have been using the Guest account
for the past 3 or 4 monthes. And of course, i can't contact Microsoft for any
help, that would be to much trouble. I am only 13 years-old, and this really
isn't the greatest situation to be on right now. I WANT MY COMPUTER BACK! :(
.. If anyone could please help me, I would be so greatful. Please reply to
prefered_opinion@yahoo.com, or
charmed_fairy_3@yahoo.com. Thank you so much.

Instructions for both Pro and Home Edition are included below for the
benefit of those who might not have the same setup as yours but who have the
same issue.

If you have XP Pro on your computer, at the log in screen type
ctrl-alt-delete
twice. In the user account type administrator, leave the password blank and
press enter. You likely didn't create a password for this hidden account
during setup and if the computer was purchased with XP pre-installed it
doesn't likely have one either,

If you have Home, boot into Safe Mode (F8 after the post test and before
Windows starts. Once Windows starts loading, you've missed it and will have
to try again). You'll have an option to log on as Administrator. Again,
the same procedure, you'll be asked to log in to get into safe mode, type
administrator, leave the password blank and press enter.

This will get you in. Then go to Control Panel, user accounts, select the
specific user and select change password. Once you've changed the password
it would be advisable to create a Password Reset Disk by clicking "Prevent a
Forgotten Password" link in the left pane.

NOTE: While I'm sure you are quite sincere, understand, these are peer to
peer newsgroups, questions and answers are posted for the benefit of all.
Also, responding to a personal e-mail address posted in a newsgroup such as
this is dangerous as users don't know if the post is legit or the actions of
some spammer looking for active e-mail addresses.
