I would like to be able to specify random use of all transitions or possible
select one transition to apply throughout the show. All i can find is that I
need to place each one individually.

This one is not possible. Closest you get is the AutoMovie but it
produces unexpected results with stills.

select one transition to apply throughout the show

This is possible. Bring all the stils from the collection to the
storyboard. Press Ctrl-A to select all in the clips in the storyboard.
Go to the Transitions page and right click on the desired transition.
Select Add to storyboard. This applies the transition between all the
consecutive selected slides.

It does work, thanks; however, I cannot find a way to remove all transitions.
IS that possible?

Yes. In Storyboard view click on the first small transition box between
two clips. It would select it, then
* Ctrl click to add another transition
* Shift click on the last transition you want to delete, it will select
all the transtitions betweent he first and last.

Press delete.

Same procedude works with effects
