Having spent over an hour on the phone with Microsoft and getting nowhere I
thought I would ask my question here.

I purchased WinXPe with SP1 disks and I am looking to do a fresh install
that would include sp2. We have no projects currently so I am starting from
scratch.

This was boxed product and is NOT an evaluation edition.

So my first question is: Is this SP only available for OEM partners at this
point?

If that is the case, when might this be released to the rest of the
developers?

I would really appreciate any info you could provide on this as we need to
get going on a embedded project ASAP and it would be really nice if I could
get some straight answers on what I need to do to get this service pack.

Thanks,

Gene

Hi Gene,

There is no WinXPe as you describe it with SP2 or SP1 for that matter :-(
There are XPe tools that you can use to build your own XPe system, but I guess that this is not what you want since it take time to
do this.

You can download eval version of tools from:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/windowsxpembedded/default.aspx

But you should contact manufacturer that made your XPe system.

Regards,
Slobodan

Don't need to, we purchased a full edition. I am looking for the Service
pack2 update to this.

This is the Target designer and database application, not a completed
embedded device.

Thanks for the response anyway.

Have you bought SP1 Full Toolkit when you purchased some number of runtime licences?

No I have yet to get to that stage where I need to get the runtime licenses
as the last for (I believe) 120 days. AFAIK the toolkit was a part of this
IDE.

Gene,

So you have non-eval SP1 tools, right?
Then you install it, and install over it SP2.

Slobodan,

I think Gene is trying to tell that he does not have access to the site.
I always thought that being OEM you have to purchase runtime licenses and sign OEM Customer Licensing Agreement (CLA). Only then you
get the access to the website.

Anyway, it may be worth to register: http://www.windowsembeddedkit.com/LandingPage.aspx?source=1016

OK Thanks KM I think somebody here is starting to understand what I am saying.

Yes you are correct, we are not an OEM at this point. We have recieved
documents (NDA's) from our distributer which have not been signed off yet,
but I was under the impression that was only to enable us to purchase run
time licenses from the authorized vendor that we do business with.

We were mailed the SP1 disks in the past after we first bought this as it
was at RTM gold status, so I assumed that was going to happen here.
Appparantly there will be some additional hoops to jump through since nobody
I've contacted at Microsoft has a clue what I am talking about in regards to
obtaining this service pack for XPe.

They either advise me (incorrectly) to download SP2 from the main MS
download center or tell me to call MSDN who tell me to call the order desk,
who in turn tell me to cough up $295.00 and talk to a support engineer about
my "issue".

It's been very frustrating to get any straight answers.

I did not know that there was some whole other level of access that is NOT
available to those who have PAID A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY for an IDE
which apparantly won't be updated until some more hoops are jumped through.I
tried registering before, but they require a signed NDA by an OFFICER OF MY
COMPANY which is rather hard to do in a multi-million dollar corporation.

Well I guess I will need to find out who sold this to us and see if they can
help.

I guess I didn't realize that something as simple as a service pack would be
such a chore to obtain. I would have liked to start my project with a fully
patched version of the product, but I don't see this happening anytime soon,
so it's SP1 with a buttload of patches instead of SP2.

Thanks anyway KM.

Gene,

You are missing one simple step here that I must point you out.

You must have got papers to sign and return before buying XPe, right?
You have one copy, right?
On that copy there is some number, right?

You can use that number to do online registration of your account.
With that account you will have access to SP2 and other things.

Regards,
Slobodan

PS:
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong it was long time ago. But I definitely did not called anyone on the phone or email to
register.

Gene,

You can also try contacting an XPe distributor. They will be happy to help you with any issue, especially if you decide to purchase
runtime licences through them :-)

Yep, that's what I'll do as soon as I find out where we aquired this from.

That's part of the problem, I was not involved with XPe until recently, so I
need to get up to speed on a few things.

Thanks for the response,

Well I found out that you can buy the Developer kit without having to have
an CLA in place, so that is why I had no access to the OEM site.

Our vendor talked to Microsoft who is sending out an SP2 update disk free of
charge and a CLA for us to sign so we are allowed access in the future.
