this is the third time i have installed xp prof. my son keeps deleting
programs needed to run norton, or other programs. is it possible to make it
so no one can delete other than myself?

Well make him a limited user and make sure you use NTFS. Then he can only delete his files. Not XPs and not yours.

Security only exists if the file system is NTFS, Right click your drive in My Computer - Properties and have a look (either Fat or NTFS).

Then make sure he is not an administrator in User Accounts in Control Panel. After all that's what admins do - install and uninstall programs for other users. You should not be one either if you want to get all technical (I ignore my own advice here). You should have two accounts. One to use and one to administer the machine. Any program you run, and viruses and spywear are programs, get your security. If you are an admin so are your viruses.

But child abuse is the preferred course of action. Beat him to an inch of his life. Far more satisfying too.
