I did a clean install of Windows XP, following the instructions from
Michael Stevens. Very helpful. My hardrive is 80 GB, but since I only
asked for 10 GB on XP setup, my hardrive looks like a 10 GB drive. Mr.
Stevens' instruction said "...you can parition and format the remaining
space after XP is setup...". Diskpart in Disk Manager shows that you
can't extend the size of a system volume. I don't understand the
advantage of multiple partition/drive letters. I would prefer one big
hardrive, to make it easy for the family to use. And I don't really
want to spend $70 on Partition Magic 8.0. Is there any way to modify
the partition so I have one big hardrive without re-doing another clean
xp install?

You'll have to perform another "clean install" or use a third-party
partitioning program, such as Partition Magic 8. Diskpart is not
designed to extend an existing partition containing the operating system.
