Windows XP Home, Administrator account

Went to install Nero burning ROM from the CD, at the point the install was
updating registry values, got the message
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\etc..." does not
allow update or something like that. Access Denied

And the installation progress bar rolled back. The same thing happens with a
TDK DVD burner I'm trying to install, although the error message just
flashed, it did not display like the Nero one did. And the progress bar
rolled back here too.

Any ideas how to fix?

You need to note the specific registry key that its trying to write to. Then click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT. Navigate to the key indicated. Right click it and select Permissions. Ensure that the Administrators group and/or your username have full control permissions.
