In XP, is there a place to log when you run which program, open which files
and things like that? How to clean it?

Where did you come from. You cannot clear the entries in the Event Log. Beside that
this info is not kept there. What the OP is looking for is not available. He is
trying to cover his tracks on the computer. There is no log for what and where what
you open,use,read, etc
