I am planning on purchasing a new DELL computer and I intend to give the old
one to a friend. But, before I give it to her I want to System Restore it
back to it's 'original' set up in March, 2002. What steps do I need to take
when I am ready to set it back? And can you give me any suggestions that
might possibly make this whole time consuming project go smoothly? I
appreciate any time or effort anyone makes to helping me finish this project
successfully. And Thank You.

You should perform a "clean install". System Restore
only goes back 90 days so you cannot use this program
to restore your system back to March 2002.

If your computer came with a so-called recovery CD or CDs, or a recovery
partition, you can use that to erase your hard disk and re-install all the
software that was on the computer when it left the factory. Otherwise, you
have to erase your hard disk and reinstall all the software yourself. If
you're unfamiliar with the correct procedures, contact your PC manufacturer.
XP's System Restore was not designed to do this.
