I wondered if it writes to the reg. I ask this because I sometimes get an
error message when the computer shuts down (error message below). I do get
this on my other computer and one of the few things the computers share in
common is the router.

Application popup: regedit.exe - DLL Initialization Failed : The application
failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Any help and information would be great.

It sounds like there's an application running, possibly even in the background that's trying to use the REGEDIT /S <REGFILENAME> command to make modifications to the Registry when the application is closed, but Windows won't let Regedit run because its already in the shutdown process. This would be an "on close" or similar event.
