Upgrade from Windows XP Home edition to Pro Edition. |
|
|
My computer came with Home Edition. I have Windows XP Pro but it was the
version before the SP 2 update was available. When I tried to install the Pro
edition, I got a message saying that I could not install XP Pro because the
version was older than the installed version. My question is this: Can I
safely install the Pro Edition and then get the SP 2 update? I don't want to
mess up my machine. I already installed all my programs. Please advise. |

You can integrate SP2 into your copy of XP Pro. Use the process outlined
here http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm
I have Upgrading Tips here http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/upgrade_tips.htm

You have two options:
1. Uninstall SP2, Install XP Pro, then install SP2.
or better yet
2. Create a slipstreamed installation CD with XP Pro and SP2. That's
not hard to do. See these links for information on how to do it:

I agree with Harry and Rock too.
I think autostreamer is also a good tool.
